The turnout to Big Bear was astounding. We had 21
Mooneys pre-register. Normally about 10% don't show up. But this
fly-in, all Mooneys flew in, plus we had 3 unannounced Mooneys! And it was
additionally exciting because we had a huge number of first-time attendees.
The Vintage Mooney Group continues to grow in members and fun.
We had a special occasion in that two of our original
founders came to our luncheon, Richard Todd and John Chandler. People
started arriving at 7:30am and continued to touchdown until just before lunch.
Everyone congregated and told hangar stories, talked about their latest mods,
maintenance, places they have been, and a host of tall tales. We had a
buffet lunch at the Mandarin Garden in our own private dining room.
Phil Corman opened the post-lunch festivities with a review
of some pretty exciting fly-ins coming up including Chino, Gold Country in
Jackson, Clear Lake Splash-In, Tucson, and Temple Bar, as well as 3 4-day trips
next year to Baja, Bryce Canyon Utah, and Durango Colorado.
We gave out awards to co-pilots this time instead of the
pilots for Longest Journey, Oldest Co-Pilot, and Youngest Co-Pilot with a
special award to Bill Barnes for Mooney in most need of a panel upgrade.
As well, Bill won the random raffle, the recipient of the "Pink Vintage Mooney
Group" T-Shirt award. We're still trying to find out if the drawing was
rigged.
