We had a great fly-in to Gold Beach, Oregon. Most Mooneys arrived on
Friday afternoon and everyone enjoyed walking along the beach just outside
the doors of our rooms at the Inn of The Beachcomber. Later in the
afternoon, we packed our car and went for a hike at Cape Sebastion.
The hike was easy and was on a forested hill overlooking the Pacific (see
pictures below). The smell of the ocean and evergreens made the hike.
That evening, we all went to the Saltwater Restaurant on the Rogue River.
Henry arranged for a table in a separate room. We were boisterous and
telling tall Mooney "tales".
On Saturday morning, we were picked up by The Rogue River Jet Boats and took
a jet boat ride 40 miles up the Rogue River. We saw more wildlife on
this trip than we could ever have imagined including Osprey, Bald Eagles,
Otters, Bear, Turtles, and more. The jet boat pilot, Travis, was very
entertaining and knowledgeable. He performed donuts in the boat that
provided some spray. Later, up river, we ran several rapids, and got
considerably more spray, which made everything fun.
At lunch we were dropped off at Lucas Lodge, equipped with a farmhouse and a
small airstrip, pictured above. The meal was prepared with food grown
or raised on the farm. Later that afternoon, some folks walked the
beach, others hiked to Secret Beach, while others rested or had a few brews.
At 7, we met at Spinners for dinner. The food and fun was even better
here. It was only a short walk, so some of us took a sunset walk along
the beach.
Sunday morning, we enjoyed a breakfast together, and headed home.
Another great Mooney event.
A Huge Mooney Thank You to Henry Punt!!!
See you at our
next fly-in!
