January 12, 2008

Hosted by Phil Corman & Ozzie Kaufmann

Well 25 airplanes and 56 people showed up to our fly-in at Lake Havasu to open our 2008 year of fly-ins.  The weather was pure winter wonderland, Clear and Visibility Unlimited.  The day started with arrivals all morning, Mooniac hobnobbin' on the ramp for a few hours, and then free shuttling to the London Bridge Resort for lunch.  D2 Aero was a fantastic FBO-Host to our fly-in with free cookies, slushies, popcorn, water and a bunch of wonderfully nice & professional staff.

Pilots and passengers knew something was different when first announcing on Unicom.  Landing Mooneys were greeted by "name" on Unicom, followed by "Follow the pretty girls on taxi".  And they were not only pretty, but pretty goofy (or Mickey Mousey).

We had lots of first timers attending including folks flying in with Mooney M20-RV6 and Mooney M20-Cessna, but all were totally in love with our Mooneys.  We had representation from all of our member states.

The next special treat was after lunch when everyone sang "VMG" to the tune of "Y-M-C-A" and "Mooney Man" to the tune of "Macho Man".  Thanks a million to Mitch, Jolie, and Gabriel (N6619U) for writing the lyrics, recording the tune, and leading us all in singing.  Click Here for the lyrics to these great songs.

A subset of the people chose to stay the night at the London Bridge Resort and we had a wonderful happy hour, dinner in a private room, and ending with an evening walk over the famed London Bridge.

What a great time!  See you all at the next fly-in.
