Well, our Third Annual Gathering of Mooneys at Tahoe was probably our most fun.
The weather was severe VFR and Carson Valley is simply beautiful at this time of
year. Mike & Mary Jacobs put on quite an itinerary starting Friday mid-day
and running through Sunday morning. The city of Minden, the Minden-Tahoe
Airport, and Hutt Aviation rolled out the Red Carpet for us VMG'ers!
On Friday afternoon, we started off with a Chicken lunch at Mike & Mary's
beautiful home nestled against the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada mountains.
Then we loaded up and went to historic downtown Carson City and toured the
historic state capitol and downtown area. After getting some history in
Carson City, we travelled over to Genoa and spent some time at the "Thirst
Palace" where we conducted some serious drinkin' and problem
solving.
More afternoon arrivals, for those that had to work or haven't figured out how
to take a day off and then we were off to the Carson Valley Inn Steakhouse.
They set us up in our own private dining area and the food was exceptional as
was the company!
At noon, everyone wandered over to the spacious and clean hangar for a homemade
Tamales, Beans, and fixins hangar lunch. Shery Loewen explained next
month's 35th Anniversary Fly-In for LASAR
at Lakeport, CA and we expect a huge turnout to celebrate LASAR and all that
they have done for Mooney owners for 35 years!
After lunch, we saddled up again and headed up to historic
Virginia City for shopping, wandering and drinkin'.
Then back to Mike & Mary's home for our 3rd Annual "Mike
& Pam Whitehead Weed Whacker Margaritas Party"! Mike and
Pam could not make it this year, so Kevin and Darci Smith took over and we all
got tipsy as fast as an uncoordinated Mooney can enter a spin. Midway
through the drinking, we called Mike and as a group hollered "Cheers Mike & Pam"
in salute of this great tradition.
Fortunately, we recovered faster than a Mooney does from a spin and all headed
over to JT's, a Basque restaurant in downtown Minden. They seated us all
together and we had a family-style Basque dinner and loads of fun as you can see
from our new VMG Kiss Cam!
See you at the next fly-in!
