The turnout to Ramona was fantastic with 30 airplanes
arriving and donating a truckload of toys to Toys for Tots (literally).
Boy, Carl Swepston just knows how to host a great fly-in. Thank you Carl!
People started arriving around 9:15am and continued to arrive
until lunchtime. Most people went on the tower tour and crawled out onto
the outside deck for a phenomenal view. The tower personnel were really
good to everyone including the kids. At the same time, folks took the free
shuttle over to the Classic Rotors Museum to get very informative docents
walking us through an impressive collection of helicopters.
Then onto lunch with a catered Mexican fare of enchiladas,
flautas, rice, beans and guacamole. After lunch we did our famous Awards
Ceremony. The first award went to Ed Shreffler for "Best Writer".
Ed's journal writings on flying are only eclipsed by the size of his heart.
Ed brings new passengers to aviation to our fly-ins regularly and also is an
Angel Flight Pilot. The second award went to Paul Kortopates for the "What
the Heck Were you Thinking" award for inviting a Bonanza pilot to a Mooney
fly-in. That's like bringing a knife to a gunfight.
We had a lotta fun with the Marines collecting the toys and
gave a standing 3-count "Hip Hip Hooray" to the Marines for their service to our
country and for collecting toys for kids.

See you all at the next fly-in to Lake Havasu, Arizona on January 12.
