We had our first fly-in to beautiful Sunriver Resort, Oregon and it was a blast.
According to Rosemary & Joe Pelissier, our amazing hosts, we had 26 Mooneys
fly-in. The weather was warm and sunny during the day and cool at night,
just right for a fire in the fireplaces of our rooms. Almost half of the
Mooneys arrived on Friday to take advantage of Sunriver's offerings. There
are 30+ miles of bike trails, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, golfing, pools, spas,
bars, massages, and food. We had so many people signed up for Friday's
dinner at the South Bend Bistro that we had to have 2 sittings. The food
was phenomenal and the company was even better.
The rest of the folks arrived all morning on Saturday and were greeted by both
fellow VMG'ers and also the airport managers. They parked us in our own
reserved area next to the international terminal pictured above and then
provided us with drinks, munchies and a warm welcome, not to mention a fuel
discount, which is always appreciated! Above you can see the usual VMG
Airport Bums.
Darn, these are just the prettiest airplanes in the world! I never tire of
this view, poised for flight!
The usual hobnobbin' on the ramp. Chris Floyd brought his Dad (wonderful),
but not Turbo (not wonderful). We had several new VMG'ers at our fly-in
including Randy Powell and his wife, Ken LeDrew, Vincent Dunn, and Bruce and
Barbara Snapp. See their member pictures on the website.
We had lunch at the Owl's Nest in the Sunriver Lodge. They gave us our own
room so we could do our thing.
After lunch, people did very "healthy things" like hiking, biking, and drinking
in addition to swimming or golfing.
Here, a bunch of really healthy outdoor Mooniacs hiked the Newberry National
Volcanic Monument,
while others hoisted steins of beer.
If dinner on Friday night was not enough, we had another dinner, this time at
Marcello's on Saturday night.
And, of course, our "After Party" with local wines and beers and munchies.
We even had a bottle of Vintage Flight and Slug Gulch Red.
Thank You to
our wonderful hosts, Rosemary & Joe Pelissier!
What a wonderful job they did so that we all could have a great weekend
together!
See you at the next fly-in!
