Back to Vintage Mooney Group Home Page Furnace Creek
January 20, 2007

Hosted by Bill Barnes

Our first fly in to Furnace Creek, Death Valley National Monument was both a real success and a sad moment for
us all! Donn and Barbara Larson, who almost single handedly kept this group going and the web site maintained
for the past three years, handed off the leadership baton to a new group of volunteer leaders. We shall miss
their wisdom, insight, hard work and experience.

Twenty five Mooneys and fifty people attended, many of whom spent the night or whole weekend. A group
of astronomers from Las Vegas gave us a real show during the day of the sun with its sun spots and solar
flares and at night they let us see Saturn with its massive rings and other nebulae in the universe. What a
thrill that was. Lunch at the Wrangler Ranch Buffet was tasty, fun and very profitable for our group.
Donn Larson, with his slow, steady drawl, was appointed auctioneer and he managed to raise a whopping
$70.00 by auctioning off a donated wooden Mooney. Other proceeds gathered by Larry and Anita Palmer
selling VMG tee shirts and baseball caps plus outright donations from generous members will keep our group
and our website going for another year.
