Oceano was a great fly-in destination. This small airport is scenically located next to the ocean and sand dunes. Many arriving pilots had difficulty finding the airport. The tip of the sand dunes point at it. Can you spot it in the photo?

It was CAVU and a comfortably warm day. The 30 kt. wind from the north gave those arriving from the north a brisk ground speed. Those arriving from the south had a head wind that brought back memories of ground speeds flying Cessnas and Pipers. On approach the ever changing wind speed and direction made for some challenging landings.

24 Mooneys and over 50 Mooniacs came and had a very enjoyable time. The original plan was to have a BBQ lunch at the airport campground. Unfortunately the BBQ had to be canceled because of last minute sad and uncontrollable circumstances. Since the BBQ was canceled there was not the usual lunch get together to discuss future plans. So, those attending took the opportunity of being at a great destination to "kick some tires" and enjoy and explore the area.

Paul Lowen and some family members were there. Paul brought a bunch of parts to show and dispensed Mooney wisdom. Al Richman was there to talk to the Mooney folks about the Columbia fly-in in June. Because everyone was not together at one time Paul and Al did not have the opportunity to do the presentations that they wanted to do. We hope to get more information soon.

Oceano has a campground on field. Some took advantage and brought tents and camp gear for a pleasant night with warm clear skies and plenty of stars. A comfortable resort hotel was close and some stayed the night there. A short walk to the beach and nearby park made a wonderful place to stroll in the later afternoon and early evening.

Some who stayed overnight in Oceano met for dinner and talked Mooneys and flying, great fun. After dinner we gathered around a campfire at the airport and then off to bed. (Thank you Dave Piehler for the great campfire shot.)

Sunday was a beautiful departure day for those who stayed the night. Love the sight of those backward tails taking wing.

Thanks to all, fly safe and let's meet again soon.
