The Santa Maria fly-in was a wonderful event. For a while, it looked like
the morning fog was going to linger well into the afternoon. Fortunately,
it began burning off around 11:00, and that enabled an onslaught of
beautiful Mooneys to arrive for the day. We had 27 Mooneys ranging from B
through M models present that carried nearly 50 people representing
California, Arizona, and Nevada.
The lunch and camaraderie were wonderful, and after feasting on BBQ chicken
and tri-tip, we were treated to a nice presentation by Paul and Sherry
Loewen from Lake Aero Styling and Repair (LASAR). Paul and Sherry have been
involved with Mooneys since 1966 and shared some of their knowledge (and
stories) with the group. What a treat! The festivities continued on into
the night with 12 people meeting for dinner on Saturday evening.
We also had a fair number of first-time attendees at this event and hope
they (and many others) will come as we continue to conduct the fly-ins at
different locations. This fly-in marked the one-year anniversary since the
first VMG occasion. We have learned a lot from each successive event and
thank everyone who has attended.
